In this article the tones used in the Cantonese dialect have been in- dicated by numbers. The high tones, L, EE, E. and EX have been represented by the numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively following the word above the line. The four low tones 下平,下上,下去, and 上入 have been similarly represented by the numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4, but placed after and below the word each qualifies. The middle tone, has been re- presented by o following and below the word it qualifies.

This method will always be adopted if in the future it is desired to indicate the nine Cantonese tones.
